Family Counseling
Family is one of the most important connections and first relationships we have in our lives. They lay the foundation for other relationships throughout our lifecycle. However, not all families are happy, or healthy all the time. There are stressors in life that may affect the family in hurtful ways. Stressors such as life transitions or changes in an individual’s life can lead to conflict/anger/resentment within the members of the family unit. Family counseling is unique in that it provides a space for the family unit to improve by not only working on the individuals making up the unit, but also the system as a whole. Through counseling, families can add “tools” to their family’s “toolbox” that can improve communication, positive relatedness to one another, and improved conflict resolution.
Some reasons to seek out family counseling include:
-
Life Transitions (i.e. change/move, loss of job, death, illness)
-
Communication Issues
-
Anger/Frustration/Resentment within family members
-
Changes in children’s behavior at home or school
-
Traumatic Experience
-
Pre-emptive preparing for a big change in the family’s life
